Rubber Roof EPDM and DOW RV Roofs

When we begin your roof, we prepare your exisiting roof surface to receive the sprayed coating. The old caulk is stripped off, surfaces are cleaned and specialized primers applied to the different surface areas. In most cases we leave the rubber or TPO roofs on the RV. The determination to remove the rubber or TPO roof is made in the shop and does not affect the price of your roof.

It only takes approximately 3 days to complete your new roof system. Additional days are required if there is wood work to be performed or if we need to prepare bare wood for spraying. Your new roof is ready to be walked on in 5 minutes and totally cured in 24 hours.

In contrast, a rubber roof is "glued" on and can fail to adhere to your roof if the weather is humid, too cold or too hot. It can then take several days of "perfect" weather conditions before your roof is cured.

As shown in this picture, the sprayed DOW roof coating seamlessly covers all roof fixtures. There is no where for water to enter into your roof and begin causing expensive damage.

To the left is a vent pipe on a typical rubber or EPDM roof system. There is the potential for leaks at every screw and around the base when caulk gives way to weather exposure. Since a rubber roof is typically inspected only once a year, damage could already have started and not be visible yet.  If the rubber or EPDM roof is replaced with our DOW sprayed system, unseen water damage is not a concern since there is no caulk or holes for water to get around.

Another common leak area on a rubber roof is at the edges where the gutters are. An EPDM roof ends at the edge of the gutter and water is trapped between the gutter and roof edge.

Here you can see the difference between the standard rubber roof and the DOW sprayed roof. The DOW chemical is sprayed over the edge to the gutter to prevent water from getting trapped and causing leak damage. Once again, no need to continuously caulk your roof joint. With the DOW system, you have a 20 year seamless roof system that will not leak.

The DOW Sprayed roof is a thicker, more tear resistant coating than your rubber roof. It is sprayed to a thickness of 3/16 of an inch where a rubber roof is about as thick as a piece of construction paper.  Here is an illustration of how the DOW coating is sprayed up over the vent to form a water resistant seal.
